Hi, i was wondering if there would ever be an option for allowing tconfig, since i am a tconfigger my self, and i like the stuff that i make.. tconfig is a great mod, but some people is misusing it, to create ultimate weapons which only requires dirt and a workbench to craft.. that is ofcourse a problem, but that is up to the server owner if he will allow the easy mods, or just put on the harder mods.
If I could, I'd choose to not allow anything to connect to my server, save for a vanilla, steam authorized (as in they paid for the damned game) Terraria client. I've been running a public server since Terraria launched, and all I can say is griefers gonna grief...I've been lucky to run in to many people who enjoy playing the game legitimately, and while I love having neat client mods that help me admin the server with ease, I'd take a vanilla client-only situation over anything else, if nothing more than for the fairness for the other players. Yes it certainly would be sweet to play with a balanced, predefined set of custom stuff, but like you said, people tend to abuse Just my 2 cents XD
i know that feeling bro all us admins have tried it at least once, and if you haven't you are going to... just as you think everything is alright, *boom* goes your world and a hacker has joined... thats the good stuff about tconfig, because it only allows the custom items that the owner have put on the server, which means people can't randomly design a weapon and then drag it into your server without your permissions... which means you are just as safe as if you didn't use it
Or you keep it vanilla, and use tshock, and then you have no* hackers. *Hackers may persist, Tshock does not stand accountable should hackers destroy your map. Tshock prevents 90% of the hackers. Results may vary.
Whats awesome about Tshock (and all of its devs) is that (since the update) I've yet to see any griefing issues caused by non-normal means. Stellar job guys. I can't say that or thank you guys enough.
that is why i want an option in tshock for allowing it on your server... since their own server which is just tconfig server, isnt this safe, all you can do that isnt in vanilla is the extra things
Very true, and I must add the appropriate "touché." At the same time (and keep in mind my knowledge of code, much less the coding for terraria & tshock, does not extend beyond very basic concepts I learned in high school...) I am aware that it's not exactly the ideal base to work with, and as such a lot of modifications built upon vastly different coding structures can be nearly impossible to merge, without complete re-writes of major portions, if not all, of the code. I don't intend to speak on behalf of the Tshock team by any means, but I have a feeling that the core concepts of tconfig sorta go against, or are not in line with what would appear to be the goal of the Tshock team. I've used this software for a long, long time, and while I haven't been as "vocal" as other users have been, I feel that I can safely say that the ultimate goal of the Tshock team is to preserve a legitimate terraria experience, while providing second-to-none server host controls that are not found within the base terraria programming. If I am in any way wrong with this statement, please let me know I have no qualms ever about what I say, and I am very ready to stand corrected should the situation arise~
As of right now TShock is designed to support the vanilla terraria client so you can host public facing servers, and be able to maintain them as reasonably as possible without issues occurring. We have no intention of doing a client mod that's official with TShock, however, it maybe possible for someone to implement a plugin to support tconfig clients.
Does this statement reflect the possibility (not of actually every officially happening, just its... viability) of a tshock-client for administrating tshock servers being a possiblity?
I'd also like to see this, especially with the recent slew of great mods the community is working on.
Now that reborn mods out I would really like to see this happen. Wish someone could do it. Much appreciation for anyone who tries.
It would be a lot easier to add the TShock API to tConfig rather than add support for tConfig in TShock.
Cough, that means go whine to them, not us, cough And stop begging for more. If you want more shit perhaps you could open your wallet and contribute to the team doing things for free for you...sheesh. We need to put food on the table too.
I guess I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that I prefer beer - but you guys already know that I'm sure.
